Suspect screening and untargeted analysis of veterinary drugs in food by LC-HRMS: Application of background exclusion-dependent acquisition for retrospective analysis of unknown xenobiotics

Chunyan Zhu et al.

Summary: This study developed an analytical strategy based on high-resolution mass spectrometry for retrospective analysis of suspect and unknown xenobiotics. Using newly developed BE-DDA and PATBS techniques, accurate identification of 48 veterinary drugs and acquisition of their MS/MS spectra were achieved. Compared to ion intensity-based data-dependent acquisition, this study provided more comprehensive analysis results.

LC-MS/MS-based metabolomics and sensory evaluation characterize metabolites and texture of normal and spoiled dry-cured hams

Renyong Liao et al.

Summary: The study revealed that spoiled ham has lower sensory quality and overall acceptance compared to normal ham, and metabolites derived from protein degradation are the key factors contributing to the unpleasant taste. The main metabolic pathways in spoiled ham include purine metabolism, pyrimidine metabolism, and protein degradation, shedding light on the formation mechanism of unpleasant taste in spoiled ham.

Wide-scope screening for pharmaceutically active substances in a leafy vegetable cultivated under biogas slurry irrigation

Wen-Ling Chen et al.

Summary: The use of livestock waste for biogas production and application of biogas slurry to agricultural soil can address waste issues and reduce synthetic fertilizer use, but may lead to migration of veterinary drugs affecting food safety. This study employed advanced technology to screen for pharmaceutically active substances in pak choi cultivated under biogas slurry irrigation, revealing the presence of multiple suspects in the crop.

Occurrence and human health risk assessment of antibiotics and their metabolites in vegetables grown in field-scale agricultural systems

Dorde Tadic et al.

Summary: The study found antibiotic residues in four types of commercially grown vegetables, with fertilization, irrigation, and vegetable type being significant factors influencing antibiotic occurrence. Metabolites were detected in most samples, with potential health risks being low. However, antibiotics in vegetables may exacerbate antibiotic resistance, requiring further research to assess the risks.

Rapid determination of pharmaceuticals inwastewater by direct infusion HRMS using target and suspect screening analysis

Ingus Perkons et al.

Summary: The study successfully detected APIs and their transformation products in wastewater using high-resolution mass spectrometry, with the most frequently detected compounds being anti-inflammatory drugs, beta-blockers, and antihypertensive drugs, as well as their metabolites. The results of the study were consistent with national consumption statistics and the origins of wastewater samples.

Climate-resilient strategies for sustainable management of water resources and agriculture

Arun Lal Srivastav et al.

Summary: Climate change has led to significant adverse effects on agriculture and water resources, including decreased agricultural production, increased drought-prone areas, and food security issues. Efforts such as water management and developing drought-resistant crop varieties can help mitigate the negative impacts of climate change on agriculture and water resources.

MetaboAnalyst 5.0: narrowing the gap between raw spectra and functional insights

Zhiqiang Pang et al.

Summary: MetaboAnalyst version 5.0 has been introduced to facilitate comprehensive metabolomics data analysis and interpretation, with the aim of narrowing the gap from raw data to functional insights. Three new modules have been developed to assist in this goal, along with various other new functions and improvements in interface, graphics, and codebase. Users can now easily switch between compatible modules for a streamlined data analysis experience.
