Ethnoracial Variation in Risk for Psychotic Experiences

Jordan DeVylder et al.

Summary: Psychotic disorders are unevenly distributed by race in the United States. Hispanic and Black respondents reported higher rates of psychotic experiences, with hallucinations more commonly reported by the Hispanic respondents. These racial disparities in psychotic experiences are explained by socioenvironmental risk factors such as income, education, urban/rural living, discrimination, and trauma exposure.

From Womb to Neighborhood: A Racial Analysis of Social Determinants of Psychosis in the United States

Deidre M. Anglin et al.

Summary: The authors examine the connection between the social environment and outcomes across the psychosis continuum in the U.S., highlighting how structural racism has shaped racial inequities in environmental conditions. They propose a model linking structural racism with psychosis risk through intermediary factors such as neighborhood factors, cumulative trauma and stress, and prenatal and perinatal complications. Evidence shows that Black and Latino people in the U.S. suffer disproportionately from risk factors within these key areas due to racial discrimination and social disadvantage.

Summary: The test-retest reliability of the ACE measure was very high, supporting its overall reliability and effectiveness in identifying baseline trauma. However, the results suggest that adolescents may not fully understand their past trauma experiences before receiving trauma-focused treatment.
