The relationship between childhood abuse and severity of psychosis is mediated by loneliness: an experience sampling study

Lisa Steenkamp et al.

Summary: This study found that the relationship between childhood abuse and severity of psychosis is mediated by loneliness, and the relationship between loneliness and psychosis is mediated by within-person fluctuations in depressive and anxious feelings. Depression mediates this relationship more strongly than anxiety. These findings highlight the role of childhood abuse and loneliness in the severity of psychosis in daily life.

The Structure of the Prodromal Questionnaire-16 (PQ-16): Exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses in a general non-help-seeking population sample

Clare Howie et al.

Summary: The study explores the structure of the PQ-16 in a non-help-seeking population through exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis. Findings suggest that a three-factor model, including perceptual abnormalities/hallucinations, unusual thought content, and negative symptoms, may be a better fit for this population compared to other proposed models.

Bridge Centrality: A Network Approach to Understanding Comorbidity

Payton J. Jones et al.

Summary: Researchers have developed four network statistics to identify bridge symptoms that connect different mental disorders, which show high predictive accuracy and robustness across different network models. Closing bridge nodes is more effective in preventing comorbidity between mental disorders compared to traditional centrality statistics.

Psychological processes mediating the association between developmental trauma and specific psychotic symptoms in adults: a systematic review and meta-analysis

Michael A. P. Bloomfield et al.

Summary: Experiencing psychological trauma during childhood and/or adolescence is associated with an increased risk of psychosis in adulthood. Mediating roles of dissociation, emotional dysregulation, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) symptoms, and negative schemata were found between developmental trauma and specific psychotic experiences. Well-conducted research with prospective designs is needed to fully understand the mechanisms underlying the association between developmental trauma and psychosis.

Aberrant anterior cingulate processing of anticipated threat as a mechanism for psychosis

Mark D. Kvarta et al.

Summary: This study found that reduced activation in the ventral anterior cingulate cortex (vACC) during anticipated threat periods is associated with psychosis and affective symptoms in schizophrenia spectrum disorder (SSD) patients. vACC activation is positively correlated with clinical symptoms and negatively correlated with trait depression.
