Muscle Fiber Type Transitions with Exercise Training: Shifting Perspectives

Summary: Human muscle fibers are classified based on myosin heavy chain isoforms into slow-twitch and fast-twitch fibers, prevalent in different types of elite athletes. The ability of fibers to shift between hybrid and pure forms as well as slow and fast types is evident, although there are limitations in current evidence. Single fiber analysis is crucial for accurate identification of fiber types, especially in the presence of hybrid fibers.

Furthermore, post-intervention, the responsiveness of bile acid synthesis to postprandial inhibition is improved after exercise and weight loss.

Summary: TGR5 activation in skeletal muscle improved glucose utilization and blood glucose clearance in mice, without altering insulin sensitivity or reducing body weight. The results suggest that TGR5 may ameliorate glucose metabolism disorders caused by diet-induced obesity and aging, offering a potential novel strategy for preventing or treating hyperglycemia.
