EULAR recommendations for cardiovascular risk management in rheumatic and musculoskeletal diseases, including systemic lupus erythematosus and antiphospholipid syndrome

George C. Drosos et al.

Summary: This study developed recommendations for cardiovascular risk management in rheumatic and musculoskeletal diseases, emphasizing the importance of regular screening and management of modifiable CVR factors as well as patient education. The recommendations covered CVR prediction tools, interventions on traditional CVR factors, and interventions on disease-related CVR factors.

Idiopathic inflammatory myopathies: CT characteristics of interstitial lung disease and their association(s) with myositis-specific autoantibodies

Amandine Laporte et al.

Summary: Interstitial lung disease in patients with idiopathic inflammatory myopathy can be classified into three clusters based on CT-scan criteria, and these clusters are significantly associated with myositis-specific autoantibodies.

Cardiovascular events in adult polymyositis and dermatomyositis: a meta-analysis of observational studies

Anji Xiong et al.

Summary: This meta-analysis study found that PM/DM patients have a approximately 2.37 times increased cardiovascular risk, especially males diagnosed within the previous five years. PM/DM may be an independent risk factor for developing IHD, IS, deep venous thrombosis, and pulmonary embolism.

Cardiovascular Risk in Myositis Patients Compared to the General Population: Preliminary Data From a Single-Center Cross-Sectional Study

Sabina Oreska et al.

Summary: This study aimed to assess cardiovascular risk in patients with idiopathic inflammatory myopathies (IIM) and its association with disease-specific features. The results showed no significant differences in cardiovascular risk factors between IIM patients and healthy controls. However, in IIM, cardiovascular risk was associated with age, disease duration, duration of glucocorticoid therapy, lipid profile, and body composition.

Novel Biomarkers Detected by Proteomics Predict Death and Cardiovascular Events in Hemodialysis Patients

Ping-Hsun Wu et al.

Summary: This study found that IL-8, TIM-1, and CCL20 can predict the outcomes of death and cardiovascular diseases in hemodialysis patients. Additionally, SCF and GAL are associated with a decreased risk of all-cause death and cardiovascular death.

Subclinical systolic and diastolic myocardial dysfunction in polyphasic polymyositis/dermatomyositis: a 2-year longitudinal study

Andrea Peter et al.

Summary: This study aimed to prospectively study echocardiographic parameters in patients with idiopathic inflammatory myopathies (IIM) for 2 years. The results showed that subclinical cardiac dysfunction could be detected in IIM patients 2 years after diagnosis, and patients with polyphasic disease patterns had a higher cardiac risk compared to those with monophasic patterns.

Possible misclassification of cardiovascular risk by SCORE in antisynthetase syndrome: results of the pilot multicenter study RI.CARDA

Konstantinos Triantafyllias et al.

Summary: This study found that patients with antisynthetase syndrome (ASyS) have a higher risk of aortic stiffness and subclinical carotid atherosclerosis, but the traditional cardiovascular risk prediction score (SCORE/mSCORE) was not effective in identifying high-risk cases.

SCORE2 risk prediction algorithms: new models to estimate 10-year risk of cardiovascular disease in Europe

Steven Hageman et al.

Summary: The study aimed to develop, validate, and demonstrate an updated prediction model (SCORE2) to estimate 10-year cardiovascular disease risk in individuals without previous history of CVD or diabetes in Europe. The new algorithm, SCORE2, enhances the identification of individuals at higher risk of developing CVD across Europe by predicting first-onset CVD risk in European populations.

The effect of a 24-week training focused on activities of daily living, muscle strengthening, and stability in idiopathic inflammatory myopathies: a monocentric controlled study with follow-up

Maja Spiritovic et al.

Summary: A 24-week supervised intervention combining activities of daily living, resistance, and stability training was found to significantly improve muscle function and stability in patients with idiopathic inflammatory myopathies. The intervention also led to improvements in quality of life and reductions in disability, depression, and fatigue among a substantial proportion of patients.
