Optically enhanced discharge excitation and trapping of 39Ar

Y-Q Chu et al.

Summary: We report a twofold increase in the loading rate of Ar-39 in an atom trap by enhancing the generation of metastable atoms. By optically pumping two transitions, additional atoms in the metastable 1s(5) level are obtained. We calculate the previously unknown frequency shifts of the transitions in Ar-39 and validate the results with trap loading measurements.

Magnetic confinement and instability in partially magnetized plasma

June Young Kim et al.

Summary: Discharge with an external magnetic field has promising applications for low-temperature plasmas, but understanding plasma transport and potential instabilities in partially magnetized plasmas is essential for improving confinement. Experimental results show that increasing magnetic field enhances magnetic confinement but also triggers instability, limiting plasma confinement. The transition of transport regimes and saturation of magnetic confinement can be observed through the variation of the edge-to-center plasma density ratio with the magnetic field.

E-H mode transitions and high-energy electron characteristics of helical antenna coupled plasma

Chuansheng Wan et al.

Summary: Increasing magnetic field strength gradually induces H-mode characteristics, as electrons undergo multiple acceleration-collision cycles, leading to increased metastable ionization. The electron energy distribution shifts from non-Maxwellian to Maxwellian. High-pressure condition results in fewer high-energy electrons.

Monitoring atmospheric 85Kr by atom counting

Chao Gao et al.

Summary: The study introduces an ultra-sensitive method for fast analysis of atmospheric Kr-85 at the parts per trillion level, based on laser cooling and trapping technology. This method allows for accurate measurements of krypton extracted from 1L STP of air in a short time frame, laying the groundwork for establishing a global atmospheric Kr-85 monitoring network.

An atom trap system for 39Ar dating with improved precision

Amin L. Tong et al.

Summary: The text introduces the emerging technique of Cosmogenic Ar-39 dating and its applications in environmental samples, as well as the development of an atom-trap system for Ar-39 analysis. Switching between different isotopes for measurement allows for more precise determination of the Ar-39 age within the range of 250-1300 years. The development of cleaning techniques also helps reduce background count rates to obtain more accurate data.

Rapid generation of metastable helium Bose-Einstein condensates

A. H. Abbas et al.

Summary: The study successfully achieved the Bose-Einstein condensation of metastable helium atoms using a vacuum coil magnetic trap and a crossed-beam optical dipole trap, observing essentially pure BECs without additional evaporative cooling.
