Wavelike electronic energy transfer in donor-acceptor molecular systems through quantum coherence

Fan-Fang Kong et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates a transition from incoherent to coherent electronic energy transfer in donor-acceptor model systems by precisely controlling the separations. Through scanning tunnelling microscopy induced luminescence, two new emission peaks were observed with decreasing intermolecular distance. The spatially resolved spectroscopic images of the redshifted emission reveal a delocalized nature of the excitonic state over the whole heterodimer, suggesting a coherent wave-like transfer of the excitons.

Fast fabrication and judgement of tip-enhanced Raman spectroscopy-active tips

Xian-Biao Zhang et al.

Summary: This study presents a controllable method for preparing TERS-active tips and proposes two important criteria for judging the TERS activity of tips. The work provides an effective way to fabricate and judge TERS-active tips quickly before real TERS experiments.

What can single-molecule Fano resonance tell?

Yang Luo et al.

Summary: This work demonstrates the applications of single-molecule Fano resonance measurements beyond determining molecular excitonic energy and dipole orientation, including probing defect-induced configurational changes and tracking tautomerization processes. The study shows different behaviors in tautomerization mechanism involving both the molecular electronic excited states and vibrational excited states in the ground state.

Energy funnelling within multichromophore architectures monitored with subnanometre resolution

Shuiyan Cao et al.

Summary: The funneling of energy within multichromophoric assemblies is essential for efficient solar energy conversion in plants. By using luminescence induced by scanning tunneling microscopy, researchers were able to probe model multichromophoric structures on a surface and mimic strategies developed by photosynthetic systems. This approach, based on organic chromophores, provides a powerful model to study fundamental physical processes in natural light-harvesting complexes.
