Bovine leukemia virus encoded blv-miR-b4-3p microRNA is associated with reduced expression of anti-oncogenic gene in vivo

Marcos D. Petersen et al.

Summary: This study investigated the relative expression of BLV-encoded miRNA blv-miR-b4-3p, host analogous miRNA bo-miR-29a, and potential target mRNAs (HBP-1 and PXDN) in cattle naturally infected with BLV. It was found that PXDN was significantly downregulated in BLV-infected cattle, suggesting the involvement of blv-miR-b4-3p in BLV tumorigenesis.

Antisense Transcripts and Antisense Protein: A New Perspective on Human Immunodeficiency Virus Type 1

Juliette Savoret et al.

Summary: It was predicted in 1988 that HIV-1 genome may have an Open Reading Frame (ORF) on the negative strand encoding a protein called AntiSense Protein (ASP). Reports emerged later describing the detection of HIV-1 antisense transcripts, presence of ASP in transfected cells, and immune response targeting ASP. Recent research confirmed the conservation of asp gene exclusively within the pandemic group M of HIV-1.

Combinatorial Use of Both Epigenetic and Non-Epigenetic Mechanisms to Efficiently Reactivate HIV Latency

Joseph Hokello et al.

Summary: The persistence of latent HIV provirus pools in different resting CD4+ cell subsets poses the greatest obstacle in current HIV treatment and cure efforts. Recent attempts to flush out latently infected memory CD4+ T-cells using latency-reversing agents have been unsuccessful in clinical trials. The major limitations of current approaches using latency-reversing agents to reactivate HIV latency in resting CD4+ T-cells are discussed in this review, along with potential solutions to these limitations.

Mechanisms of Binding Specificity among bHLH Transcription Factors

Xabier de Martin et al.

Summary: The transcriptome of every cell is controlled by a complex network of interactions between transcription factors and their binding sites on DNA. Disruption of this network can lead to organism malfunction or serve as a substrate for positive natural selection. Understanding the specific determinants of TF-DNA interactions is challenging, as it involves integrating multiple mechanisms such as DNA motif preferences, post-translational modifications, and epigenetic modifications.

Characterization of microRNA expression in B cells derived from Japanese black cattle naturally infected with bovine leukemia virus by deep sequencing

Chihiro Ochiai et al.

Summary: The study revealed that BLV infection alters B cell miRNAs, with blv-miRNAs showing a significant positive correlation with BLV proviral load, while bta-miRNAs are down-regulated in BLV-infected cattle, and this downregulation is linked to increased PVL. The results suggest that BLV promotes lymphomagenesis via AS1 and blv-miRNAs, rather than tax/rex, by down-regulating the expression of bta-miRNAs that have a tumor-suppressing function.
