Summary: Learned helplessness, which develops with prolonged exposure to uncontrollable stressors, is highly relevant to individuals living with pain or other poorly controlled chronic diseases. This study has developed a helplessness scale specific to chronic conditions, addressing the limitations of previous scales in conceptualizing control constructs. The results suggest that the three-factor CDHS is a psychometrically sound measure of helplessness in individuals with chronic pain.

Hopelessness and Depression Predict Sarcopenia in Advanced CKD and Dialysis: A Multicenter Cohort Study

Summary: Sodium and ultrafiltration profiling are methods used to adjust dialysate sodium concentration and ultrafiltration rate to improve hemodynamic stability during hemodialysis. However, complications such as increased interdialytic weight gain and thirst due to sodium excess have limited the widespread use of sodium profiling. Further clinical investigation is needed to determine the optimal method of sodium profiling and the utility of sodium/ultrafiltration profiling in routine practice.
