The role of hydrophilic/hydrophobic group ratio of polyvinyl alcohol on the miscibility of amlodipine in orodispersible films: From molecular mechanism study to product attributes

Jie Liu et al.

Summary: In this study, the miscibility of Amlodipine (AML) orodispersible films (ODFs) with different hydrolyzed polyvinyl alcohols (PVAs) was systematically investigated. The drug-polymer miscibility and intermolecular interaction were analyzed through various methods, and the product attributes of ODFs were studied as well. The pharmacokinetic study showed that the ODFs disintegrated rapidly and the amorphous AML was effectively dissolved and absorbed in the gastrointestinal tract, comparable to the commercial product. This research provides a foundation for the design and formulation of PVA films.

Highly conductive quaternary ammonium-containing cross-linked poly (vinyl pyrrolidone) for high-temperature PEM fuel cells with high-performance

Huijuan Bai et al.

Summary: The use of polymeric crosslinker improves mechanical properties and proton conductivity of high-temperature polymer electrolyte membranes. The quaternary amine groups introduced by crosslinking enhance phosphoric acid adsorption and retention capacity, while the increased molar free volume accommodates more phosphoric acid storage and reduces polymer main chain plasticization.

Study on the application of Flory-Huggins interaction parameters in swelling behavior and crosslink density of HNBR/EPDM blend

Xingwang Jiang et al.

Summary: This study calculated the sorption and permeation coefficients of amine solvents in a blend of hydrogenated nitrile rubber and ethylene propylene diene monomer rubber (HNBR/EPDM) and verified the transport mechanism of the solvents. The Flory-Huggins interaction parameters between the solvent and HNBR/EPDM were obtained using one-dimensional and three-dimensional solubility parameters, and their predictive powers in the solvents' transport behavior and cross-linking density calculation were studied and compared.

Performance of a packed-bed anode bio-electrochemical reactor for power generation and for removal of gaseous acetone

Shu-Hui Liu et al.

Summary: The packed anode bioelectrochemical system (Pa-BES) developed in this study effectively removes organic substances from waste gas and shows great potential for practical application. The optimal performance of the system was achieved when the empty-bed residence time was 45 s and the liquid flowrate was 35 mL/s, with a removal efficiency of 93.86%, mineralization efficiency of 93.37%, voltage output of 296.3 mV, and power density of 321.12 mW/m(3). Microbial community dynamics analysis revealed the spatial distribution of various organic degraders, electrochemically active bacteria, nitrifying, and denitrifying bacteria in the system.

Summary: The study evaluates the effects of long-term HCH contamination on soil and plant-associated microbial communities, as well as the potential of contaminated soil to act as a bacterial inoculum in post-excavation bioremediation strategies. Results show that microbial communities in long-term contaminated bulk soil were shaped by HCH, while the composition of root-associated bacterial communities in L. tenuis was mainly influenced by plant growth stage.

Optimization preparation of composite membranes as proton exchange membrane for gaseous acetone fed microbial fuel cells

Shu-Hui Liu et al.

Summary: By synthesizing a proton exchange membrane (PEM) with low oxygen diffusivity and high proton conductivity through the production of composite membranes using different polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) and conductive carbon black (CCB) ratios, we were able to significantly enhance the PEM properties. The optimal concentrations of PVA and CCB were determined to be 10.04% and 0.82 m(3) g(-1) respectively, leading to a 20-fold increase in proton conductivity (PC) compared to unmodified PEM. Additionally, applying the modified PEM to a biotrickling filter-MFC (BTF-MFC) improved the removal efficiency of gaseous acetone to over 97%.
