A nomogram based on shear wave elastography for assessment of renal fibrosis in patients with chronic kidney disease

Ziman Chen et al.

Summary: This study aimed to establish a nomogram based on shear wave elastography (SWE) and clinical features for the assessment of the severity of renal fibrosis in patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD). The results showed that the SWE nomogram demonstrated good performance in discrimination, calibration, and clinical utility.

Evaluation of renal fibrosis in patients with chronic kidney disease by shear wave elastography: a comparative analysis with pathological findings

Ziman Chen et al.

Summary: Study found that in patients with CKD, the SWE derived elastic values decreased as the grade of renal fibrosis or vessel wall thickening progressed. This may be attributed to renal hypo-perfusion rather than tubulo-interstitial fibrosis progression.

Elastography ultrasound with machine learning improves the diagnostic performance of traditional ultrasound in predicting kidney fibrosis

Minyan Zhu et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the prediction value of shear wave elastography (SWE) and traditional ultrasound techniques in kidney fibrosis using support vector machine (SVM) modeling. The results showed that combining SWE with traditional ultrasound improved the diagnostic performance in predicting different grades of kidney tubulointerstitial fibrosis among patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD).

Using random forest algorithm for glomerular and tubular injury diagnosis

Wenzhu Song et al.

Summary: This study aimed to classify glomerular injury (GI) and tubular injury (TI) of chronic kidney disease (CKD) using machine learning algorithms. Through feature selection and model construction, Random Forest demonstrated superior performance in early diagnosis of GI and TI, providing potential benefits for the progression of CKD.

The International Society of Renal Nutrition and Metabolism Commentary on the National Kidney Foundation and Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics KDOQI Clinical Practice Guideline for Nutrition in Chronic Kidney Disease

Brandon M. Kistler et al.

Summary: The updated Clinical Practice Guidelines for nutrition in chronic kidney disease provide valuable recommendations for nutrition screening, assessment, macronutrients, and electrolytes, with a special focus on early detection and prevention of kidney disease. The guidelines suggest dietary protein intake ranges for CKD patients and emphasize the importance of individualized medical nutrition therapy for slowing down disease progression. Stakeholders are encouraged to collaborate in strengthening the evidence base through standardized outcomes and well-designed studies in CKD patients.

Shear wave elastography accurately detects chronic changes in renal histopathology

Sook Sam Leong et al.

Summary: The study found that shear wave elastography can accurately detect different parts of chronic renal damage, with results significantly correlated with tubulointerstitial score and glomerular score, providing important references for the diagnosis and treatment of CKD.

Fibrosis in Chronic Kidney Disease: Pathogenesis and Consequences

Sara Panizo et al.

Summary: Fibrosis is a process of excessive accumulation of extracellular matrix in response to tissue injuries, which can lead to organ dysfunction. While it can play a defensive role, in certain circumstances it can become pathological and have negative impacts on kidney and heart in CKD.

Preoperative ultrasound-based radiomics score can improve the accuracy of the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center nomogram for predicting sentinel lymph node metastasis in breast cancer

Hai-ling Zha et al.

Summary: By combining the MSKCC nomogram and US-based radiomics score, this study found that the Radscore extracted from 18 features had good discriminatory capability. The AUC of the combined model was superior to MSKCC or imaging Radscore alone in both the training and validation sets. Decision curve analysis demonstrated that the combined model had higher clinical practicability.

Machine learning models for screening carotid atherosclerosis in asymptomatic adults

Jian Yu et al.

Summary: The study developed machine learning models to screen for CAS in asymptomatic adults, with the MLP model achieving the highest performance among all classifiers. These models may offer an effective method for physicians and primary care doctors to screen for asymptomatic CAS in the general population, improving risk predictions and prevention of cardiovascular and cerebrovascular events in asymptomatic adults.
