Metabolomics analysis of urine from rats given long-term high-protein diet using ultra-high-performance liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry

Hua Ning et al.

Summary: This study investigated the long-term effects of a high-protein diet on metabolism in rats, and found that compared to a normal diet, the high-protein diet resulted in lower fat tissue and higher skeletal muscle to body weight ratio. Metabolomics analysis revealed 11 metabolites that were significantly different between the two diets and were related to the metabolic responses induced by the high-protein diet.

Serum metabolite profiles predict outcomes in critically ill patients receiving renal replacement therapy

Jinchun Sun et al.

Summary: The study revealed that serum metabolic profiling of critically ill patients with acute kidney injury requiring renal replacement therapy can predict their mortality risk and recovery outcome. Specifically, changes in certain metabolite levels were associated with inflammatory processes and muscle wasting in these patients.

Role of interleukin 8 in depression and other psychiatric disorders

Shih-Jen Tsai

Summary: Low grade neuroinflammation, particularly involving interleukin-8 (IL-8), has been suggested as an underlying mechanism for various psychiatric diseases and cognitive disorders. Elevated peripheral levels of IL-8 have been reported in conditions such as schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, obstructive sleep apnea, and autism spectrum disorder. However, the exact role of IL-8 in major depression remains inconsistent in the literature.

Screening of lipid metabolism biomarkers in patients with coronary heart disease via ultra-performance liquid chromatography?high resolution mass spectrometry

Fang Cai et al.

Summary: This study aimed to screen lipid metabolism biomarkers in patients with coronary heart disease through ultra-performance liquid chromatography-high resolution mass spectrometry. A total of 316 lipid metabolites were annotated in the study, revealing glycerophospholipid metabolism and sphingolipid metabolism as the main lipid disorders of CHD. The study provides valuable insights for the prevention of CHD.

Untargeted serum metabolomics and tryptophan metabolism profiling in type 2 diabetic patients with diabetic glomerulopathy

Fanliang Zhang et al.

Summary: The study used untargeted metabolomic techniques to reveal serum metabolite profiles in patients with diabetic glomerulopathy (DG) compared to healthy controls, highlighting the significant role of tryptophan metabolism in the pathogenesis of DG. Differential metabolites were identified, with tryptophan derivatives showing accumulation in DG patients and depletion in healthy controls. Correlation analysis showed associations between specific metabolites and renal function indices in DG patients.
