Novel conservative management of chronic kidney disease via dialysis-free interventions

Summary: In advanced chronic kidney disease (CKD) patients, there is an increasing interest in conservative and preservative management of kidney function. Conservative nondialytic management focuses on optimizing quality of life and treating symptoms of end-stage renal disease (ESRD) through dietetic-nutritional therapy and routine symptom assessment. Palliative care and emerging treatments, such as intestinal and dermatologic pathways, are also being explored to reduce uremic toxin burden in certain patients where dialysis may not confer better survival or improved patient-centered outcomes.
