Beneficial incorporation of metal-sulfur interaction in adsorption capacity of boron nitride based adsorbents used in highly selective sulfur removal

Leila Yosefi et al.

Summary: A series of novel nickel, molybdenum, and cobalt loaded boron nitride adsorbents were synthesized for adsorptive removal of DBT from model diesel fuel. Among these adsorbents, cobalt and nickel loaded boron nitride showed the best desulfurization capacity. This enhancement in adsorption performance could be attributed to the interactions between metal oxides and the adsorbent.

Synergistic effect of nitrogen and molybdenum on activated carbon matrix for selective adsorptive Desulfurization: Insights into surface chemistry modification

Musa O. Azeez et al.

Summary: This study reports the synthesis of mesoporous metal-modified nitrogen doped activated carbon (AC-N-Mo) from date seeds and its application in the selective adsorptive desulfurization of dibenzothiophene (DBT). The AC-N-Mo shows higher adsorption capacity for DBT and exhibits excellent selectivity. The enhanced adsorption performance is attributed to the synergistic effect of nitrogen heteroatom.

Biodesulfurization of refractory sulfur compounds in petro-diesel by a novel hydrocarbon tolerable strainPaenibacillus glucanolyticusHN4

Hussein N. Nassar et al.

Summary: The study focused on the presence of recalcitrant thiophenic compounds in transportation fuels and successfully isolated a biodesulfurizing bacterium capable of desulfurizing DBT without affecting its hydrocarbon skeleton. The bacterium Paenibacillus glucanolyticus strain HN4 showed promising potential for thiol-resistant alkylated DBTs and achieved high desulfurization efficiency in a biphasic process.

Adsorptive desulfurization of model diesel fuel over mono-functionalized nickel/γ-alumina and bi-functionalized nickel/cerium/γ-alumina adsorbents

Mohammad Ali Abedi et al.

Summary: This study investigated the selective adsorption mechanisms of 4,6-dimethyldibenzothiophene (4,6-DMDBT) onto mono-functionalized nickel/gamma-alumina (Ni/gamma-Al2O3) and bi-functionalized nickel/cerium/commercial gamma-alumina (Ce-Ni/gamma-Al2O3). The results indicate that sulfur compounds bind to the adsorbent active sites through pi-Ni, S-Ce, and S-H interactions. The multifunctional Ce-Ni/gamma-Al2O3 showed higher adsorptive selectivity for 4,6-DMDBT in diesel fuel compared to Ni/gamma-Al2O3.

Fabrication of Zn and Mn loaded activated carbon derived from corn cobs for the adsorptive desulfurization of model and real fuel oils

Muhammad Yaseen et al.

Summary: In this study, zinc and manganese loaded activated carbon derived from corn cobs were used for adsorptive desulfurization of model and real fuel oils. The results showed that Zn/AC and Mn/AC performed better in removing dibenzothiophene, following pseudo 2nd order kinetics and Freundlich adsorption isotherm model. The prepared adsorbents remained highly active for six repeated cycles with minimal decrease in desulfurization performance under the optimized reaction conditions.

An experimental study of Ni-Mo adsorbent for reactive adsorption desulfurization of spent tire pyrolysis oil modelled using n-hexane and thiophene

Qian Zhang et al.

Summary: Using a co-precipitated nickel-molybdenum (NiMo) adsorbent for the reactive adsorption desulfurization (RADS) of model spent tire pyrolysis oil, it was found that under mild reaction conditions of 300 degrees C, 1 MPa, and 108 H:S molar ratio, a sulfur removal percentage of 99.9% was achieved. Ni and Mo played cooperative and multifunctional roles in the RADS process, acting first as sulfur acceptors and then as active centers for hydrodesulfurization (HDS).
