Ayub Md Som et al.

Summary: The application of plant-based coagulants in industrial wastewater treatment has gained attention due to their potential advantages. This study focused on Hylocereus undatus foliage as a plant-based coagulant and aimed to evaluate its performance in treating different types of wastewater under different operating conditions using optimization techniques. The results showed that the optimum conditions for paint wastewater treatment were achieved at pH 5, a coagulant dosage of 300 mg/L, rapid mixing speed of 120 rpm, and temperature of 30 degrees C. The removal efficiencies of turbidity, COD, and SS were found to be 62.81%, 59.57%, and 57.23%, respectively.

Photocatalytic reduction of methylene blue induced by a commercial titanium precursor in homogeneous phase

A. Hernandez-Gordillo et al.

Summary: This study evaluates the photocatalytic activity of titanium(IV) bis(ammonium lactate) dihydroxide (TiBALDH) as a potential alternative to TiO2 nanostructures for degrading methylene blue in water. The results show that even at a low concentration of 0.5 mM, the undiluted titanium precursor exhibits high activity in degrading the dye within seconds. The photocatalytic activity is influenced by concentration, radiation type, and pH, indicating the presence of concentration-dependent photoreactive species, possibly oxoclusters. This approach demonstrates the potential for efficient advanced oxidation processes in homogeneous solutions.

Experimental and theoretical investigation of enhancing the photocatalytic activity of Mg doped ZnO for nitrophenol degradation

Karim Tanji et al.

Summary: Magnesium-doped ZnO nanoparticles (Mg0.1Zn0.9O) were synthesized via the solution combustion method, and their effects on the morphology, crystalline phases, and optical properties of the ZnO nanoparticles were studied. Density functional theory (DFT) calculations showed that Mg doping increased the band gap of ZnO nanoparticles from 3.19 eV to 3.24 eV. Under UV irradiation, 1.5 g of Mg0.1Zn0.9O/L achieved 81% degradation of 4-nitrophenol (60 mg/L) in aqueous suspension with a pH solution of 12 within 120 min.

Summary: This research focuses on designing and fabricating green and sustainable systems for efficient removal of methylene blue from aqueous solutions. Hybrid beads were produced using ionotropic gelation technique with calcium chloride, consisting of a sodium alginate matrix, hemp hurd, and halloysite nanoclay. The adsorption capacity of the composite beads was found to increase with higher HNTs content, with the process mainly characterized by boundary diffusion and intraparticle diffusion. Additionally, diffusion of the dye varied with HNTs content and pH, decreasing from acidic to neutral solutions and then increasing in an alkaline environment.

The Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) analysis for the clay mineralogy studies in a clastic reservoir

Golnaz Jozanikohan et al.

Summary: A comprehensive understanding of clay minerals is crucial for evaluating hydrocarbon reservoirs. In this study, transmission Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) tests were conducted on ten samples from a heterogeneous clastic gas reservoir formation in NE Iran to study the clay mineralogy. The FTIR analysis revealed the presence of clay minerals in all samples, and further analysis using powder X-ray diffraction, wavelength dispersive X-ray fluorescence, and scanning electron microscopy confirmed the presence and abundance of different types of clay minerals. The study concluded that FTIR analysis is a useful technique for screening samples in clay mineralogy studies.
