Technical evaluation of the cone-beam computed tomography imaging performance of a novel, mobile, gantry-based X-ray system for brachytherapy

Andre Karius et al.

Summary: The novel CBCT system with a ring gantry and a flat-panel detector has shown high image quality in QA phantom scans, with high CT-number accuracy, uniformity, reasonable noise and imaging fidelity, and good CNR. However, spatial resolution was limited by geometric instabilities, and adaptations to standard protocols are necessary for artefact reduction and improved image reconstruction.

First clinical experience with a novel, mobile cone-beam CT system for treatment quality assurance in brachytherapy

Andre Karius et al.

Summary: This study presents the first clinical results of a novel CBCT device, which showed feasible treatment quality assurance for breast and gynecologic patients. However, further improvements are needed for image-guidance during interventional procedures.

The Role of Interstitial Brachytherapy for Breast Cancer Treatment: An Overview of Indications, Applications, and Technical Notes

Salvatore Cozzi et al.

Summary: Breast cancer is a common cancer in women, and adjuvant radiotherapy plays a key role in conservative treatment. Muticatheter interstitial brachytherapy is a precise and versatile radiation technique that has strong scientific evidence for partial breast irradiation and reirradiation after previous surgery and external beam radiotherapy. The aim of this work is to provide a comprehensive understanding of the use of interstitial brachytherapy in breast cancer treatment.

Quality assurance and long-term stability of a novel 3-in-1 X-ray system for brachytherapy

Andre Karius et al.

Summary: A novel QA workflow was developed for a 3-in-1 X-ray system to assess the device's imaging and hardware performance. The system showed reasonable imaging performance and stability over time, although improvements are required for laser and jaw accuracy.

Cardiac doses of accelerated partial breast irradiation with perioperative multicatheter interstitial brachytherapy

Veronika Novotna et al.

Summary: Perioperative MIB-APBI resulted in low cardiac doses in our study. The distance between cardiac structures and the CTV, as well as V100, significantly impacted heart dosimetry. These findings further support the value of this technique in well-selected patients with early-stage left breast cancer.
