Prevalence and Long-term Outcomes of CT Interstitial Lung Abnormalities in a Health Screening Cohort

Jong Eun Lee et al.

Summary: This study investigated the prevalence of interstitial lung abnormalities (ILAs) in an Asian health screening cohort and found that fibrotic ILA was associated with increased risks of ILA progression, lung cancer development, and mortality over a 10-year follow-up period.

Radiologic-pathologic correlation of interstitial lung abnormalities and predictors for progression and survival

Kum Ju Chae et al.

Summary: By evaluating the correlation between radiologic and histologic features, it was found that subpleural fibrotic interstitial lung abnormalities (ILAs) are associated with pathologic usual interstitial pneumonia (UIP) patterns. The recognition of subpleural fibrotic ILAs on CT scans is important for predicting disease progression and mortality risk.

Interstitial lung abnormalities (ILA) on routine chest CT: Comparison of radiologists' visual evaluation and automated quantification

Min Seon Kim et al.

Summary: The study aimed to evaluate the performance of fully automated quantitative software in detecting interstitial lung abnormalities (ILA) based on the Fleischner Society guidelines. Results showed substantial agreement among readers for ILA presence but only fair agreement for its subtypes. Applying an automated quantification system may aid in the objective identification of ILA in routine clinical practice.

Interstitial lung abnormalities in patients with stage I non-small cell lung cancer are associated with shorter overall survival: the Boston lung cancer study

Tomoyuki Hida et al.

Summary: In this study of 231 stage I NSCLC patients, ILA was present in 9.5% of patients and was significantly associated with shorter overall survival, serving as an imaging marker for shorter survival in stage I NSCLC.

Feasibility of implementing a national lung cancer screening program: Interim results from the Korean Lung Cancer Screening Project (K-LUCAS)

Jaeho Lee et al.

Summary: The K-LUCAS project evaluated the feasibility of implementing a national lung cancer screening program in Korea. Results showed that approximately 15.2% of screening participants had positive results, with about 66.7% of lung cancer patients having early-stage cancer. Additionally, screening helped reduce anxiety levels and encouraged smoking cessation motivation.
