PcNRAMP1 Enhances Cadmium Uptake and Accumulation in Populus x canescens

Wenjian Yu et al.

Summary: In this study, the function of a transporter protein NRAMP1 involved in cadmium uptake and transport in poplar trees was characterized. The results showed that NRAMP1 is localized to the plasma membrane and plays a crucial role in transporting cadmium from the roots to aerial tissues. Furthermore, two amino acid residues in PcNRAMP1 (M236 and P405) were identified to be essential for its transport activity for cadmium.

Synchrotron X-ray fluorescence microscopy-enabled elemental mapping illuminates the 'battle for nutrients' between plant and pathogen

Fatima Naim et al.

Summary: Metal homeostasis plays a crucial role in plant growth and development. Using X-ray fluorescence microscopy, researchers visualized and analyzed the distribution of essential mineral nutrients in wheat leaves infected with a fungal pathogen, revealing hyperaccumulation and depletion patterns around the infection site. The study demonstrates the capability of XFM for high-resolution mapping of nutrient distribution in diseased leaves.

X-ray absorption spectroscopy evidence of sulfur-bound cadmium in the Cd-hyperaccumulator Solanum nigrum and the non-accumulator Solanum melongena

Marie-Laure Pons et al.

Summary: The study investigated the Cd speciation in the plants Solanum nigrum and Solanum melongena using X-ray absorption spectroscopy. The results showed that Cd in roots and fresh leaves is mainly bound to thiol ligands, with a small contribution of inorganic S ligands in S. nigrum leaves. In the stems, there was an increase in Cd binding to -O ligands.

The new X-ray absorption fine-structure beamline with sub-second time resolution at the Taiwan Photon Source

Chih Wen Pao et al.

Summary: The new TPS 44A beamline at the Taiwan Photon Source is equipped with a new quick-scanning monochromator for XAFS spectroscopy experiments. It demonstrated the capability to collect spectra at the limits of the working energy range, tested the performance of the beamline, and showed the ability to collect XAFS spectra on a sub-second timescale.
