Psychological Well-Being, Cognitive Functioning, and Quality of Life in 205 Adolescent and Young Adult Childhood Cancer Survivors Compared to Healthy Peers

Marta Tremolada et al.

Summary: Most studies suggest that adolescent and young adult (AYA) cancer survivors have similar well-being and quality of life compared to healthy controls. This study found that cancer survivors had lower perceptions of quality of life in the past five years, but reported fewer cognitive difficulties, despite having lower educational attainment.

A qualitative assessment of body image in adolescents and young adults (AYAs) with cancer

Justin B. Moore et al.

Summary: This study aimed to develop a conceptual framework for body image in adolescents and young adults with cancer by conducting concept elicitation interviews with 36 AYA patients and healthcare providers. The study found that patient body image experiences evolve over time and are largely affected by concerns about how others view them, while providers are aware of patient body image issues but do not systematically address them. The consistency of themes that emerged from the data is more striking than the differences between patient groups, indicating the importance of addressing body image concerns for AYA patients.
