Occupational Conditions Associated With Negative Mental Health Outcomes in New York State Health Professionals During the COVID-19 Pandemic

Summary: This study examined the relationship between occupational circumstances and mental health among health care workers during the COVID-19 pandemic. The results showed that health care workers who worked directly with patients while sick themselves had a higher risk of negative mental health. Other factors such as working more hours than usual, having family/friends who died due to COVID-19, experiencing COVID-19 symptoms, and facing shortages in personal protective equipment were also independently associated with adverse mental health outcomes.
