Resting state prefrontal cortex oxygenation in adolescent non-suicidal self-injury-A near-infrared spectroscopy study

Julian Koenig et al.

Summary: This study examined PFC oxygenation using NIRS technology in adolescents engaging in NSSI, finding significantly decreased PFC oxygenation in these adolescents compared to healthy controls, associated with adverse childhood experiences and lower health-related quality of life. Additionally, increased PFC connectivity in the full sample was associated with adverse childhood experiences, greater BPD pathology, depression severity, psychological burden, and lower health-related quality of life.
