Computational design of BC3N2 based single atom catalyst for dramatic activation of inert CO2 and CH4 gasses into CH3COOH with ultralow CH4 dissociation barrier

Chenxu Zhao et al.

Summary: In this study, a novel catalyst (M@2D-BC3N2) with single metals loaded on a 2D BC3N2 substrate was proposed based on density functional theory. Among the candidates, Pt@2D-BC3N2 exhibited the most favorable reactivity with an ultralow barrier for methane splitting and high selectivity for acetic acid production. The results also showed that the production of acetic acid could be promoted by increasing the temperature or the coverage of methane and carbon dioxide.

Highly active Fe36Co44 bimetallic nanoclusters catalysts for hydrolysis of ammonia borane: The first-principles study

Jinrong Huo et al.

Summary: In this paper, Fe36Co44 nanocluster structure is utilized for catalyzing the hydrolysis reaction of ammonia borane to produce H2. The construction of the cluster structure is completed, and the electronic properties of the cluster are calculated. By comparing the adsorption process of Ammonia Borane (AB) in active sites of the cluster, the qualitative relationship between Effective Coordination Number (ECN) and the catalytic activation of AB is clarified, and the optimal catalytic active site is obtained. Multiple reaction paths of the hydrolysis reaction of AB are studied from different perspectives, resulting in 5 different reaction paths and energy profiles. Among them, path 5 exhibits the minimum rate-determining step (RDS) barrier and exothermic reaction. This study provides important guidance for understanding the mechanism of AB hydrolysis reaction.

A critical review on the economic aspects and life cycle assessment of biodiesel production using heterogeneous nanocatalysts

Hossein Esmaeili

Summary: This review paper focuses on the economic aspects of biodiesel production using nanocatalysts from different oil sources. The findings reveal that the use of CaO and MgO nanocatalysts and their derivatives decreases the cost of biodiesel production due to their simple synthesis, low-cost, abundance in nature, and high catalytic ability. Moreover, labor costs and plant production capacity have a significant impact on the biodiesel price. Using low-cost and non-edible oils with high oil content, such as Schizochytrium sp. microalga and jojoba, can significantly reduce the cost of biodiesel production.
