Recycling of Vanadium-Containing BOF Slag with Agitation and Heap Leaching

Denis Ordinartsev et al.

Summary: This article introduces a high-efficiency method for recycling vanadium-containing BOF slag using heap leaching with sulfuric acid. The leaching degrees of vanadium were 98.5% by agitation leaching and 71% by leaching in a percolator column. The diffusion through the slag boundary layer is a limiting factor for vanadium leaching efficiency. The experiment also investigated the influence of pause duration between irrigations. The results showed that the heap leaching process was selective, with higher leaching degree of vanadium compared to other slag components, except for aluminum.

Paul S. Bagus et al.

Summary: This paper presents a rigorous ab initio treatment of the XPS features in Fe2O3, providing strong evidence that many-body effects are essential for a correct description of the ionic states. The study also found that a large fraction of the Fe 2p XPS intensity is contained in a relatively small binding energy range.

New understanding of extraction and separation of vanadium(IV), iron and titanium using iron powder induction-leaching and P204-P507 synergistic extraction

Zhenzhong Bian et al.

Summary: In this study, the induced-leaching behavior of hematite by iron powder was investigated after ammonium sulfate roasting vanadium titanomagnetite concentrate, and a P204-P507 synergistic extraction method was developed for the separation of vanadium(IV), iron, and titanium. The results showed that effective selective separation of the three elements was achieved, with high dissolution of vanadium and iron and low dissolution of titanium. Iron powder was found to reduce chemical reaction resistance and accelerate ion transfer rate in the leachate. The speciation analysis revealed the distribution of the three elements in the form of VO(2+) and Fe(II) ions and TiO2 precipitation. The extraction efficiency of vanadium reached 98.13% under the optimized condition, as confirmed by the five-stage countercurrent extraction test. The P204-P507 molecule was shown to release two H+ ions for every vanadium ion extracted. Finally, a high-titanium slag with a TiO2 content of 85.32% was obtained.
