Evolutionary dynamics of HIV-1 subtype C in Brazil

Bernardino Souto et al.

Summary: The extensive genetic diversity of HIV-1 poses a major challenge for prevention and treatment. Subtype C dominates global infections, particularly in Southern Africa, Ethiopia, India, and unexpectedly, in South Brazil. South Brazil has the largest HIV-1 subtype C epidemic in the Americas, showing different transmission patterns compared to the subtype B predominant elsewhere.
