Bidirectional, unlike unidirectional transport, allows transporting axonal cargos against their concentration gradient

Ivan A. Kuznetsov et al.

Summary: Although most axonal cargos are synthesized in the soma, their concentration at the presynaptic terminal is often higher than in the soma. This necessitates the transport of cargos from the soma to the presynaptic terminal, which can occur through bidirectional and unidirectional modes of transport. Bidirectional transport is less efficient, requiring more time and energy. This study investigates different models of axonal cargo transport and their ability to describe transport against the cargo concentration gradient.
