Discrete finite volume formulation for multidimensional fragmentation equation and its convergence analysis

Mehakpreet Singh et al.

Summary: This study focuses on developing a finite volume scheme for a multidimensional fragmentation equation. The proposed scheme conserves total mass and accurately estimates other moments.

Fragmentation with discontinuous Galerkin schemes: non-linear fragmentation

Maxime Lombart et al.

Summary: Small grains are crucial in astrophysical processes and their population is maintained by fragmentation due to collisions. However, current algorithms for solving the fragmentation equation suffer from overdiffusion in 3D simulations. To address this challenge, we have developed a discontinuous Galerkin scheme to efficiently solve the non-linear fragmentation equation with a limited number of dust bins.

EXISTENCE AND NONEXISTENCE FOR THE COLLISION-INDUCED BREAKAGE EQUATION

Ankik Kumar Giri et al.

Summary: This study explores a mathematical model for collision-induced breakage and proves the existence of weak solutions to the continuous nonlinear equation under certain conditions. However, global mass-conserving weak solutions do not exist under different conditions, and the question of uniqueness is also addressed in the study.
