Investigation of cutting temperature, cutting force and surface roughness using multi-objective optimization for turning of Ti-6Al-4 V (ELI)

Darshit R. Shah et al.

Summary: Titanium alloys, especially Ti-6Al-4V ELI, are widely used in aerospace, biomedical, marine, and other industries due to their superior properties. This research investigates the effects of cutting parameters on surface roughness, cutting temperature, and cutting force during the turning process of Ti-6Al-4V ELI. Mathematical models are developed, and multi-objective optimization using genetic algorithm is conducted to determine the optimum values for cutting force, cutting temperature, and surface roughness. The findings provide insights for achieving desirable surface quality and machining performance in Ti-6Al-4V ELI turning processes.

Effects of deep cryogenic treatment on machinability, hardness and microstructure in dry turning process of tempered steels

Menderes Kam

Summary: This study investigated the effects of Deep Cryogenic Treatment (DCT) on machinability, hardness, and microstructure in dry turning process of AISI 4140 tempered steels. The experiments showed that the DCTT36 sample had the lowest Ra value and highest hardness values compared to other samples. The study suggested that lower Ra values can be achieved with ceramic cutting tools in dry turning experiments, making DCT a cost-effective alternative to cylindrical grinding.
