Evaluation of fungal biomass developed from cocoa by-product as a substrate with corrosion inhibitor for carbon steel

Gabriel Pereira Monteiro et al.

Summary: This study investigated the use of fungal biomass obtained from cocoa bean shell through solid-state fermentation as a natural corrosion inhibitor for carbon steel in an acidic solution. The results showed that this biomass effectively inhibited the corrosion of carbon steel, with a maximum inhibition efficiency of 93%.

Production and biochemical characterization of halotolerantβ-glucosidase byPenicillium roquefortiATCC 10110 grown in forage palm under solid-state fermentation

Cintia Albernaz das Neves et al.

Summary: This study investigated the production of beta-glucosidase from Penicillium roquefortiATCC 10110 through solid-state fermentation using forage palm as a substrate. The optimization of incubation parameters resulted in increased enzymatic activity, with the beta-glucosidase showing higher reactivity and stability at pH 5.0 and 52 degrees C. Additionally, the enzyme exhibited good halotolerance and remained active even after 24 hours of incubation.

Solid-state fermentation for enhancing the nutraceutical content of agrifood by-products: Recent advances and its industrial feasibility

Luis O. Cano Y. Postio et al.

Summary: Solid-state fermentation (SSF) has emerged as a promising bioprocess for industrial applications, particularly in producing nutraceutical compounds from agrifood by-products. This review paper discusses the current use of SSF as a pretreatment process to enhance the nutritional content of food and agro-industrial by-products, highlighting its potential advantages and drawbacks compared to submerged fermentation. Technological challenges for scaling up SSF are also addressed, emphasizing its role as an innovative tool for designing future industrial-scale bioprocesses for nutraceutical compound production and value addition to agrifood by-products.

Artificial neural network hybridized with a genetic algorithm for optimization of lipase production from Penicillium roqueforti ATCC 10110 in solid-state fermentation

Luiz Henrique Sales de Menezes et al.

Summary: A hybrid approach of artificial neural network with genetic algorithm (ANN-GA) was applied to optimize lipase production of Penicillium roqueforti ATCC 10110 in solid-state fermentation. The optimized input variables were fermentation time, incubation temperature, and moisture content, resulting in a lipase activity value of 48.00 U g(-1), three times greater than other methodologies. The ANN model was obtained from a small dataset of 28 experiments with interpolation and generalization capability.
