Electrostatics of granules and granular flows: A review q

Yanlin Zhao et al.

Summary: In recent decades, the electrostatics of granules and granular flows has gained increasing attention due to its relevance to industrial problems and the development of new technologies. Electrification caused by granule-wall collision is influenced by various factors and shows saturation as granule processing increases. The presence of electrostatic charges has significant impacts in chemistry, chemical engineering, energy, pharmaceuticals, and other related areas. The measurement technology of electrostatics in granule conveying systems has been improved, and further research in this interdisciplinary problem is expected.

The Influence of Relative Humidity and Storage Conditions on the Physico-chemical Properties of Inhalation Grade Fine Lactose

Milica Stankovic-Brandl et al.

Summary: Dry powder inhalers are favored for delivering dry formulations to the lungs, but struggle with high doses of active pharmaceutical ingredients in lower airways. Adding fine excipient particles can improve aerosolization performance, but variations in milling parameters and storage conditions can affect the properties of lactose powders. Changes in humidity levels can impact amorphous content and dispersion behavior, emphasizing the importance of considering these factors in formulation development.

Measurement and quantification of caking in excipients and food products with emphasis on the non-homogeneous interaction with ambient moisture

Katrina Brockbank et al.

Summary: This study investigated the impact of moisture induced caking on powder flowability using powder rheology. The results showed that caking does not always occur uniformly, with a caked region forming at the air-powder interface and progressing through the powder bed. The strength of this caked region was also observed to increase over time before stabilizing.

Density and size-induced mixing and segregation in the FT4 powder rheometer: An experimental and numerical investigation

Marv J. Khala et al.

Summary: The study investigates mixing and segregation of binary mixtures of glass beads and/or resin particles based on density and size differences using a new FT4 methodology. Results show that the mixing index increases with density and size ratio, with flow energy and torque variation related to mixture components' mixing and segregation. DEM numerical analysis reveals that mixing and segregation occur differently in non-cohesive and cohesive systems under various stress conditions.

On the design of conical hoppers for spent coffee grounds: Moisture content and particle-size effects

L. Massaro Sousa et al.

Summary: The study examined the bulk and flow properties of spent coffee grounds and found that flowability worsened with decreasing particle size and increasing moisture content. It is essential to carefully consider these factors when designing effective devices for handling spent coffee grounds.
