Alleviating effect of dietary supplementation of benzoic acid, Enterococcus faecium and essential oil complex on coccidia and Clostridium perfringens challenge in laying hens

Hongye Zhang et al.

Summary: This experiment investigated the effects of dietary supplementation of benzoic acid, Enterococcus faecium, and essential oil complex (BEC) on coccidia and Clostridium perfringens challenge in laying hens. The results showed that adding BEC to the diet significantly improved production performance and egg quality, while protecting intestinal health against CP and coccidia challenge.

Research Note: Effects of Bacillus coagulans X26 on the production performance, intestinal structure, short-chain fatty acids and flora composition of laying hens during the peak laying period

Li Xu et al.

Summary: This study found that adding Bacillus coagulans X26 during the peak laying period can significantly improve the production performance and egg quality of laying hens, surpassing those fed with chlortetracycline hydrochloride. Additionally, Bacillus coagulans X26 improves intestinal structure and increases the content of short-chain fatty acids in the intestines. Therefore, Bacillus coagulans X26 has the potential to be used as an alternative feed additive to antibiotics.

The effects of xylo-oligosaccharides on regulating growth performance, nutrient utilization, gene expression of tight junctions, nutrient transporters, and cecal short chain fatty acids profile in Eimeria-challenged broiler chickens

Yang Lin et al.

Summary: This study found that supplementation of XOS can alleviate the negative effects of Eimeria infection on broiler chickens' growth performance and nutrient utilization. In addition, XOS supplementation reversed the gene expression changes induced by Eimeria infection and showed potential in improving cecal fermentation.

Intestinal microbiota of layer hens and its association with egg quality and safety

Dong Dai et al.

Summary: The intestinal microbiota plays a critical role in modulating egg quality in laying hens. The composition and succession of intestinal microbiota have significant effects on egg quality, and its metabolites indirectly regulate egg quality through the microbiota-gut-liver/brain-reproductive tract axis.

Effect of benzoic acid on production performance, egg quality, intestinal morphology, and cecal microbial community of laying hens

Haojie Gong et al.

Summary: The study found that dietary supplementation with benzoic acid had minimal impact on production performance in laying hens, but significantly improved egg quality. Specifically, 1,000 mg/kg benzoic acid positively modulated intestinal health by improving intestinal morphology and enriching microbial composition.

Differential analysis of gut microbiota and the effect of dietary Enterococcus faecium supplementation in broiler breeders with high or low laying performance

Jianping Wang et al.

Summary: The study examined the difference in microbiota of breeders with different egg-laying rates, and found that breeders with higher egg-laying rates had better reproductive performance and microbiota diversity, while those with lower rates triggered energy storage leading to higher fat deposition.

Possible Benefits of Faecalibacterium prausnitzii for Obesity-Associated Gut Disorders

Tatiani Uceli Maioli et al.

Summary: Research has shown a direct link between the composition of the gut microbiota and the pathogenesis of obesity and diabetes. An obesity-inducing diet can lead to increased gut permeability and microbial dysbiosis, contributing to chronic inflammation and insulin resistance. Modulating the gut microbiota may be a potential treatment approach for these conditions.

Summary: This review provides an overview of the pathogenesis of necrotic enteritis (NE) in chickens caused by Clostridium perfringens (CP), as well as the interaction of CP with the host immune system. The roles of management, nutrition, probiotics, and vaccination in reducing the incidence and severity of NE in poultry flocks are also discussed.

The Effect of Oxidative Stress on the Chicken Ovary: Involvement of Microbiota and Melatonin Interventions

Jianping Wang et al.

Summary: The study using the poultry ovary model found that oxidative stress can lead to reduced reproductive performance, impaired ovarian function, and altered gut microbiota. Melatonin can ameliorate ovary oxidative stress through the SIRT1-P53/FoxO1 pathway.
