Stereoselective metabolomic and lipidomic responses of lettuce (Lactuca sativa L.) exposing to chiral triazole fungicide tebuconazole

Liuqing Zhao et al.

Summary: This study used non-targeted and targeted metabolomics/lipidomics studies to investigate the effects of tebuconazole and its enantiomers on lettuce metabolism. Results showed significant stereoselectivity in the impact of tebuconazole on plant metabolism, with activation of nucleotide metabolism and nicotinic acid metabolic network. Exposure to tebuconazole led to down-regulation of soluble sugars and subsequent amino acids and organic acids, indicating notable effects on lettuce metabolomics and lipidomics.

Potential epigenetic regulation of RNA 5′-terminal NAD decapping associated with cellular energy status of postharvest Fragaria x ananassa in response to Botrytis cinerea invasion

Quan Ma et al.

Summary: This study identified NAD decapping genes in strawberry for the first time and found their specific expression patterns in response to gray mold disease. The energy status of strawberry was found to be related to pathogenic invasion, shedding new light on the biological function of RNA noncanonical NAD cap.

Rethinking of botanical volatile organic compounds applied in food preservation: Challenges in acquisition, application, microbial inhibition and stimulation

Quan Ma et al.

Summary: This article comprehensively reviews the biosynthesis and antimicrobial mechanism of botanical volatile organic compounds (VOCs), and collects and selects current and potential applications of VOCs in food pathogen control. The article emphasizes the conceptual distinction between VOCs and essential oils (EOs), and the potential of synthetic biology for VOC production. Additionally, the challenges of VOC application and possible solutions are discussed.

Coordination of Phospholipid-Based Signaling and Membrane Trafficking in Plant Immunity

Jingjing Xing et al.

Summary: The article provides a summary of defense-associated signal transduction processes in plants, focusing on the connection between phospholipid-based signaling and membrane trafficking. It discusses the role of lipid diversity in these processes and highlights the mechanisms that regulate plant immunity by mediating feedback between phospholipid-based signaling and membrane trafficking.

Moderation of respiratory cascades and energy metabolism of fresh-cut pear fruit in response to high CO2 controlled atmosphere

Di Wang et al.

Summary: This study investigated the effects of 10% CO2 on the respiration pathway and energy metabolism of fresh-cut pears, finding that under 10% CO2, the total respiratory rate was moderated and the energy charge was 1.6 times higher than in the control group. Enzymes involved in energy metabolism were affected, leading to preservation effects on fresh-cut pear fruit such as inhibition of senescence, decrease of energy status, and promotion of stress resistance.

Plant volatile organic compound (E)-2-hexenal facilitates Botrytis cinerea infection of fruits by inducing sulfate assimilation

Yanqun Xu et al.

Summary: The study found that (E)-2-hexenal can enhance the assimilation of sulfate byBotrytis cinerea at low concentrations, leading to increased infection severity in tomato and strawberry fruits. The results suggest that sulfate assimilation is a key factor affecting B. cinerea infection, and it is proportional to the sulfur content in the fruits.
