Preparation and optimization of nitrogen-doped porous carbon derived from bio-oil distillation residue for high-performance supercapacitors

Kai Li et al.

Summary: A new technique for utilizing bio-oil distillation residue (BDR) to prepare nitrogen-doped carbon materials for supercapacitors was proposed. BDR was activated with KOH and melamine by orthogonal experimental method. The effects of KOH-to-BDR ratio, melamine-to-BDR ratio, and activation temperature on the physicochemical and electrochemical characteristics of activated BDR were examined. The highest specific capacitance of the activated BDR was 442.0 F/g, and the energy density reached 14.8 Wh/kg.

Atomic-scale insight into the pyrolysis of polycarbonate by ReaxFF-based reactive molecular dynamics simulation

Qiang Liu et al.

Summary: The isothermal pyrolysis behavior of bisphenol-A polycarbonate under anoxic conditions was studied using ReaxFF simulations, which successfully reproduced the main pyrolysis products observed in experiments. The pyrolysis of polycarbonate was dominated by random chain scission, with carbonate groups being more vulnerable to high temperatures. ReaxFF simulations revealed reaction routes of various pyrolysis products and indicated that certain reactions like cyclic oligomer formation, hydrolysis, and transesterification were less likely to occur at extremely high temperatures.

New Insights into the Pyrolysis Behavior of Polycarbonates: A Study Based on DFT and ReaxFF-MD Simulation under Nonisothermal and Isothermal Conditions

Xin Wei et al.

Summary: This study investigated the pyrolysis behavior of polycarbonates under nonisothermal and isothermal conditions using a combination of ReaxFF-MD simulation and density functional theory. Three different stages of pyrolysis processes were identified under nonisothermal conditions, while the influence of temperature on char decomposition into gas and liquid was analyzed under isothermal conditions. The results indicated that different pyrolysis products were generated from specific groups within the polycarbonates, providing insight into the mechanisms involved in the pyrolysis process.

Catalytic co-pyrolysis of polycarbonate and polyethylene/polypropylene mixtures: Promotion of oil deoxygenation and aromatic hydrocarbon formation

Kai Sun et al.

Summary: The co-pyrolysis of PC and PE/PP in the presence of HZSM-5 catalyst without external hydrogen addition was studied to promote deoxygenation and aromatic hydrocarbon formation. Increasing the blending ratio of PE/PP resulted in a higher yield of gas phase products and decreased yields of oil phase, coke, and solid products. Catalyst regeneration reduced acidity but showed slight decrease in deoxygenation and aromatization effects.

Ageing affects microplastic toxicity over time: Effects of aged polycarbonate on germination, growth, and oxidative stress of Lepidium sativum

Stephan Pflugmacher et al.

Summary: The study found that exposure to new and short-term aged polycarbonate resulted in the most severe effects, while the adverse effects associated with polycarbonate exposure decreased with increasing aging time. The toxicity of new polycarbonate material is likely to decrease with the aging process over time.
