Design and economic analysis of high-pressure proton exchange membrane electrolysis for renewable energy storage

Jian Dang et al.

Summary: The use of high-pressure cathode in proton exchange membrane (PEM) electrolysis can eliminate the need for a hydrogen compressor and enhance the efficiency of hydrogen transmission. This study conducted an economic analysis of the entire process from hydrogen production to transportation, demonstrating the advantages of high-pressure PEM electrolysis. The influence of cathode pressure and membrane thickness on energy consumption and capital expenditure of the electrolyzer was analyzed, considering factors such as hydrogen permeability, ohmic impedance, and structural design. Furthermore, the impact of renewable energy scale on the choice between PEM and ALK was evaluated, showing that PEM has an advantage in large-scale renewable energy applications.

Sulfonated graphene oxide doped sulfonated polybenzothiazoles for proton exchange membrane fuel cells

Gang Wang et al.

Summary: A series of sulfonated polybenzothiazoles (sPBT-E) with flexible ether groups in the polymer backbone were synthesized. Sulfonated graphene oxide (SGO) was doped into the sPBT-E matrix to enhance proton conduction. The sPBT-E62.5/SGO3 membrane exhibited excellent potential as an alternative proton exchange membrane for fuel cells.

High-performance sandwich-structure PI/SPEEK plus HPW nanofiber composite membrane with balanced proton conductivity and stability

Peng Wei et al.

Summary: To address the conflict between strong proton conductivity and high stability in SPEEK-based PEM, researchers developed a sandwich-structure hybrid membrane by incorporating phosphotungstic acid and polyimide nanofibers. The experimental results demonstrated that this hybrid membrane exhibited lower swelling ratio and higher conductivity, making it more stable and superior to SPEEK.

Design and Development of Copper Trimesic Acid Anchored sPEEK/Polyimide Composite Membranes for Fuel Cell Applications

Mahalingam Aparna et al.

Summary: A copper-based metal organic framework (MOF) anchored polymeric blend membrane with excellent properties was developed for fuel cell application. The Cu-MOF served as a filler material and showed well-defined crystallite sites with an average size of 0.3 angstrom. By interacting with the sulfonic acid group in the matrix, the MOF improved proton conduction through hydrogen bonding interaction. The experimental results showed that the composite membranes exhibited high ion exchange capacity, water uptake, and proton conductivity, making them efficient proton exchange membranes for PEMFCs.

Multifunctional Thermally Conductive Composite Films Based on Fungal Tree-like Heterostructured Silver Nanowires@Boron Nitride Nanosheets and Aramid Nanofibers

Yixin Han et al.

Summary: Thermal conduction in electronic equipment for 5G communication is becoming increasingly important. The design of highly thermally conductive fillers and polymer composite films with prominent Joule heating characteristics and extensive mechanical properties is urgently needed. In this study, a solvothermal & in situ growth method was used to prepare thermally conductive fillers consisting of silver nanowires and boron nitride nanosheets. Composite films with optimized thermal conductivity were obtained by suction filtration and hot pressing. The resulting films exhibited high thermal conductivity, excellent tensile strength, good temperature-voltage response characteristics, and superior electrical stability and reliability, making them promising for widespread applications in 5G electronic devices.

Self-sustained oscillations in the potential of a CO-poisoned PEM fuel cell: A model based on physical principles

David Levitan et al.

Summary: This study presents a dynamic 1-D model for simulating the oscillatory behavior in the anode potential of a PEM fuel cell under constant current conditions and the presence of CO impurities, which is validated with experimental data and investigates the parametric sensitivity of CO-electrooxidation and OH-adsorption kinetic rates on the oscillation frequency. The model effectively captures the phenomenon of oscillatory behavior and provides insights on the effects of different kinetic rates on system dynamics.
