Fabrication of two hydrogels composites through the coupling of gelatin with ethyl vanillin/polyvinyl alcohol using electron beam irradiation for ciprofloxacin delivery

Reza Hafezi Moghaddam et al.

Summary: A topical wound dressing system containing ciprofloxacin was developed using hydrogels fabricated from gelatin and ethyl vanillin, as well as their composites with polyvinyl alcohol. The composite hydrogels showed slow drug release in simulated wound fluid, with about 90% of the drug released in 19.5 hours. Cytotoxicity analysis revealed the non-toxic nature of the hydrogels, and they demonstrated acceptable growth inhibition against Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli bacteria.
