Influence of Molecular Weight on the Nucleation and Growth of Different Crystal Forms in Isotactic Polypropylene: In Situ Synchrotron Microfocus X-Ray Scattering Combined with Fast-Scanning Chip Calorimetry Investigations

Ying Lu et al.

Summary: The study investigated the Mw-dependent formation of mesophase and a phase in iPP using in situ synchrotron microfocus X-ray scattering and portable fast-scanning chip calorimetry techniques. The results showed that a common crystallization line was shared by the mesophase of all three samples, while different crystallization lines were observed for the iPP samples. Additionally, the melting line of the mesophase overlapped with its crystallization line, unlike the a phase. The study also suggested the presence of an intermediate layer in the multistage crystallization model for the a phase.

Advantage of Preserving Bi-orientation Structure of Isotactic Polypropylene through Die Drawing

Dong Lyu et al.

Summary: The study on isotactic polypropylene (iPP) processing indicates that die-drawing process is more advantageous in achieving a high fraction of oriented cross-hatched structure compared to free tensile stretching. The presence of alpha-nucleating agents affects the formation of oriented parent-daughter lamellae in die-drawn samples, while the influence diminishes in free stretched ones. Confined deformation inside the die contributes to the well-preserved oriented cross-hatched structure in die-drawn iPP.
