Investigation of temperature-dependent DC breakdown mechanism of EP/TiO2 nanocomposites

Zhen Li et al.

Summary: In this study, the temperature-dependent direct current (DC) breakdown mechanisms of epoxy resin (EP)/TiO2 nanocomposites were investigated. The incorporation of nanoparticles reduced space charge accumulation and electric field distortion, while an increase in temperature accelerated space charge accumulation, electric field distortion, and molecular displacement. A DC breakdown simulation model was established to further explore the influence of carrier traps and molecular chain dynamics on temperature-dependent breakdown. The calculated results showed good agreement with experimental data, indicating that the temperature-dependent DC breakdown mechanisms are dominated by the synergistic effects of carrier traps and segment chain dynamics. Furthermore, a transition from segment chain to backbone dynamics was discovered near the glass-transition temperature for DC breakdown of EP/TiO2 nanocomposites.

Enhanced DC breakdown strength of epoxy nanocomposites at elevated temperature and its mechanisms

Zhen Li et al.

Summary: Adding functional nanoparticles to the epoxy matrix can enhance the DC breakdown strength of epoxy composites at elevated temperatures. Studies show that with increasing nanoparticle loading, the DC breakdown strength first increases and then decreases, with an overall improvement observed within a certain range of filler content.

Spatial inhomogeneity, interfaces and complex vitrification kinetics in a network forming nanocomposite

Paulina Szymoniak et al.

Summary: The study revealed that at higher concentrations of nanofillers, the interface dominates the overall macroscopic properties and behavior of the material to a great extent. The system exhibited two distinct alpha-relaxation processes, along with two separate vitrification mechanisms, as confirmed by NMR analysis. The intrinsic spatial heterogeneity on a molecular scale becomes more pronounced with increasing nanofiller content.
