Synthesis of porous polymers by means of Michael addition reaction of multifunctional acetoacetate and poly(ethylene glycol) diacrylate

Naofumi Naga et al.

Summary: Michael-addition reaction between multifunctional-acetoacetate, meso-erythritol tetra-acetoacetate (ETAA) or dsorbitol hexa-acetoacetate (SHAA), and poly(ethylene glycol) diacrylate (PEGDA) has been investigated to obtain porous polymers with controllable diameter and morphology. The porous polymers are soft, flexible, and have high affinity with various solvents.

Ring-Opening Polymerization of Triaziridine Compounds in Water: An Extremely Facile Method to Synthesize a Porous Polymer through Polymerization-Induced Phase Separation

Naofumi Naga et al.

Summary: Trifunctional aziridine compounds 3AZ and 3AZOH can initiate ring-opening polymerization in water to yield network polymers. The polymerization process induces phase separation and results in porous polymers. The surface morphology of 3AZ porous polymers is unique, and the Young's modulus can be increased by raising the polymerization temperature. The porous polymers are capable of absorbing various solvents.

Carbonyl Aziridines: Strained Amides for Rapid Polyamide Synthesis

Taoguang Qu et al.

Summary: The polymerizations of bis(N-carbonyl aziridine)s to form polyamide copolymers were investigated. It was found that postconsumer PETE-derived terephthalaziridine could react with various dinucleophiles to form poly(amide ester)s, poly(amide ether)s, or poly(amide sulfide)s without the need for protecting group chemistry. The polymerizations were performed under mild conditions and open air, making them compatible with many functional groups.
