Use of potentially driver-impairing drugs among older drivers

Sarah Zitoun et al.

Summary: This study investigated the consumption of potentially driver-impairing drugs among older drivers and found associations with chronic pain, depressive disorder, and polypharmacy, while having lower associations with type 2 diabetes and atrial fibrillation. The findings highlight the need for careful assessment of driver-impairing drug prescriptions in the elderly population.

Why and how evaluating driving abilities in patients with neurodegenerative diseases?

Chloe Lazeras et al.

Summary: Individuals with neurodegenerative diseases are at a higher risk of traffic accidents, yet driving is crucial for their social integration and independence. The SIMARD-MD is not an Effective Driver Screening Tool for Determining Fitness-To-Drive

Alexander M. Crizzle et al.

Summary: The study found that the SIMARD-MD had poor predictive accuracy for determining pass/fail on a road test for both drivers with cognitive impairment (CI) and healthy drivers. Healthy drivers had a higher pass rate on the road test compared to the CI sample. The ROC curve indicated that the SIMARD-MD misclassified a significant number of CI individuals.

Driving status and health-related quality of life among the oldest old: a population-based examination using data from the AgeCoDe-AgeQualiDe prospective cohort study

Andre Hajek et al.

Summary: The study found that in Germany, driving status is associated with health-related quality of life among the oldest old population, with current drivers experiencing fewer problems in daily activities and self-care. Further longitudinal studies are needed to determine the causal relationship between driving status and HRQOL in very old individuals.
