Fasting Blood Glucose Variability and Unfavorable Trajectory Patterns Are Associated with the Risk of Colorectal Cancer

Hyoju Jun et al.

Summary: This study identified for the first time that fasting blood glucose variability and unfavorable trajectory patterns are significantly associated with an increased risk of colorectal cancer in the healthy population without overt diabetes. These findings suggest that fasting blood glucose variability, as well as fasting blood glucose itself, may be predictive factors for the development of colorectal cancer.

Updated reference ranges for aminotransferase levels of Korean children and young adolescents based on the risk factors for metabolic syndrome

Young-Jun Seo et al.

Summary: We investigated the reference values of liver enzymes based on cardiometabolic risks among children and adolescents. The study found that AST and ALT levels varied with sex and age, with AST levels decreasing and ALT levels having a U-shaped curve. AST, ALT, and the AST/ALT ratio were strongly associated with the prevalence of MetS, and could be useful in the early diagnosis and treatment of the condition.

Uric acid levels in gestational hypertensive women predict preeclampsia and outcome of small-for-gestational-age infants

Xiaobo Zhao et al.

Summary: The study found that elevated serum uric acid in Chinese Han women with gestational hypertension is associated with an increased risk of progression to preeclampsia and delivering small-for-gestational-age infants. ROC analysis showed moderate prediction values for preeclampsia, but relatively low prediction values for small-for-gestational-age infants, with improved accuracy in Han women with early onset gestational hypertension.

Liver Enzymes Correlate With Metabolic Syndrome, Inflammation, and Endothelial Dysfunction in Prepubertal Children With Obesity

Rosario Valle-Martos et al.

Summary: The study found that prepubertal children with obesity had significantly higher levels of liver enzymes, leptin, markers of insulin resistance, inflammation, and endothelial dysfunction, as well as variables associated with Metabolic Syndrome, compared to children with normal weight. There was also a significant correlation between these disorders and liver enzyme levels.

Summary: The study found a positive correlation between serum uric acid and liver enzymes (ALT and GGT) in adults in Bangladesh. Men had higher mean uric acid levels than women, and men also had significantly higher levels of liver enzymes than women.

Assessment of the relationship of serum liver enzymes activity with general and abdominal obesity in an urban Bangladeshi population

Nurshad Ali et al.

Summary: The study found a high prevalence of elevated liver enzymes among Bangladeshi adults, particularly related to general and abdominal obesity. The mean levels and prevalence of some serum enzymes were significantly higher in the obesity group compared to the normal group. Serum GGT was independently associated with both types of obesity, indicating a need for further research on the complex relationship between liver enzymes and obesity in the general population.

A Population Based Study of Liver Function amongst Adults with Hyperuricemia and Gout in the United States

Subrata Deb et al.

Summary: There is a correlation between uric acid levels and liver enzyme functions in adults with hyperuricemia and gout, with high uric acid levels associated with increased odds of elevated liver enzymes. Risk factors such as age, gender, race/ethnicity, BMI, and hypertension were also found to be significantly associated with liver enzyme levels.

Association of Hepatic Steatosis Index and Fatty Liver Index with Carotid Atherosclerosis in 2 Diabetes

Chenxi Wang et al.

Summary: The study found that HSI and FLI are independently correlated with carotid atherosclerosis in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. Increasing values of HSI and FLI were significantly associated with CIMT across different age and hypertension categories. These indices may serve as simple and useful markers for evaluating the progression of diabetic macrovascular complications.

Summary: The study found varying trends in the prevalence of NAFLD among adolescents and young adults in the United States. Males, Hispanics, and late adolescents showed higher prevalence rates, while Whites and Blacks had lower rates. Over the study period, there was an increasing trend in NAFLD prevalence among 18-24 year-olds, highlighting important public health and policy implications.
