Prevalence of depression and suicide ideation in Hong Kong doctors: a cross-sectional study

It found high rates of undiagnosed depression among Hong Kong doctors, with factors such as reduced sleep hours associated with depression and suicidal ideation. There is a need for greater awareness of the morbidity due to depression and to promote better mental health help-seeking among physicians.

Summary: The study found a high prevalence of burnout among young doctors in Hong Kong, with nearly two-thirds reporting personal and work-related burnout, and over half reporting client-related burnout. Additionally, a quarter of respondents were somewhat dissatisfied with their current job position, and the prevalence of depression was 21% among respondents.
