Neurons gating behavior-developmental, molecular and functional features of neurons in the Substantia Nigra pars reticulata

Juha Partanen et al.

Summary: The Substantia Nigra pars reticulata (SNpr) plays a major role in the basal ganglia network, particularly in movement regulation, behavioral state adjustment, and response to reward. It also has the potential for signal integration and action selection. This article discusses the regionalization of SNpr, specifically the division of its neurons into anterior and posterior subtypes, and how their unique developmental and molecular characteristics may correlate with region-specific connections and functional specializations of SNpr. Understanding the differentiation of SNpr neurons can provide insights into fundamental brain functions and neurological disorders.

Altered Expression of Par3, aPKC-λ, and Lgl1 in Hippocampus in Kainic Acid-Induced Status Epilepticus Rat Model

Chen Zhang et al.

Summary: The study investigated the potential roles of Par3, aPKC-lambda, and Lgl1 in mossy fiber sprouting (MFS) and epileptogenesis of temporal lobe epilepsy (TLE) using epileptic rat models induced by kainic acid. The findings showed that there was an upregulation of Par3 and Lgl1, and a downregulation of aPKC-lambda in the experimental group, with a positive correlation between Par3 expression and Timm scores, and a negative correlation between aPKC-lambda expression and Timm scores in the CA3 region.

Transgenic modeling of Ndr2 gene amplification reveals disturbance of hippocampus circuitry and function

Deniz A. Madencioglu et al.

Summary: Increased expression of the Ndr2 gene may critically contribute to the development of intellectual disabilities. Through studying transgenic mice with increased Ndr2 expression in postmigratory forebrain neurons, the consequences on brain circuitry and cognitive functions were revealed.
