Gap Plasmonics of Single Gold Nanoparticle Above a Gold Substrate Covered with Thin Gain Film

Feng Shan et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the local electric field enhancement characteristics of gold nanoparticles placed on a metal film covered with a thin gain medium. Simulation results show that the electric field in the gap between the nanoparticles and the substrate is significantly enhanced, and the presence of the gain medium further enhances the electric field intensity. By studying the relationship between the local electric field intensity and the optical properties of the gain medium, an optimal refractive index coefficient is found for a given nanoparticle size, achieving a local electric field enhancement of nearly 200 times. This research is important for designing gap-coupling systems in various fields.

A hybrid dewetting approach to generate highly sensitive plasmonic silver nanoparticles with a narrow size distribution

Harim Oh et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates that combining thermal and laser dewetting processes can generate more uniform metal nanoparticles, with pre-annealing leading to narrower size distribution. The obtained silver nanoparticles exhibit a strong single plasmonic resonance peak due to their narrow size distribution, showing enhanced refractive index sensitivity and figure of merit as a plasmonic sensing platform compared to particles produced via laser dewetting.
