Air to H2-N2 Pulse Plasma Jet for In-Vitro Plant Tissue Culture Process: Source Characteristics

Kunpisit Kosumsupamala et al.

Summary: Plasma agriculture is a promising solution for sustainable and safe agri-food production, including applications such as germination induction, plant-growth stimulation, post-harvest sterilization, and management. This study reports the diffusion pattern of plasma active radicals in a semi-solid model and their effects on bacterial killing and plant tissue culture. The H-2 + N-2-treated medium showed potential antimicrobial effects, and it can be widely used for economically important plant tissue cultures.

Conductive Gas Plasma Treatment Augments Tumor Toxicity of Ringer's Lactate Solutions in a Model of Peritoneal Carcinomatosis

Lea Miebach et al.

Summary: Reactive species generated by medical gas plasma technology can be enriched in liquids for use in targeted tumor therapy. This study shows that gas plasma treatment in conductive mode is more effective for tumor control than free mode treatment, and suggests that conductively oxidized liquid can enhance intratumoral T-helper cell subpopulations for disease control.

Properties of Water Activated with Low-Temperature Plasma in the Context of Microbial Activity

Jolanta Malajowicz et al.

Summary: The low-temperature plasma process is an environmentally friendly and effective technology for microbial decontamination. Plasma-activated water (PAW), produced by the reaction of non-thermal plasma with water, contains highly reactive oxygen and nitrogen species (RONS) and shows great potential in various biotechnology applications. However, there is a lack of comprehensive research on the mechanism of microbial inactivation, the impact of reactive oxygen and nitrogen species on cell components, and the effectiveness of PAW inactivation based on growth phases. This review aims to summarize the current research in this area, highlighting the potential applications of PAW in medical sciences and food technology, and identifying the species or strains of inactivated microorganisms.

Cocktail of reactive species generated by cold atmospheric plasma: oral administration induces non-small cell lung cancer cell death

Chang-Hyun Song et al.

Summary: Oral administration of plasma-treated water (PTW) has shown efficacy in curing advanced non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) without toxicities observed in mice. PTW exhibits favorable anticancer effects on chemo-resistant lung cancer, similar to gefitinib, by inhibiting proliferation and angiogenesis, and enhancing apoptosis in cancer cells. Additionally, PTW contributes to an enhanced immune response and improved cachexia in the model.

Selective Killing Effects of Atmospheric Pressure Plasma Jet on Human Melanoma and Lewis Lung Carcinoma Cells

Saitong Muneekaew et al.

Summary: This study aimed to selectively kill skin cancer cells using a custom designed and portable atmospheric pressure plasma jet (APPJ), with a focus on melanoma and lung carcinoma cells. The mechanisms of cell fate evolution following APPJ treatments were elucidated, along with the observation that benign cells could resume proliferation activities after APPJ impact. These findings shed light on the potential of APPJ treatments for future developments in direct plasma skin cancer therapy.

Sirli Raud et al.

Summary: This study investigated the impact of plasma-produced reactive oxygen and nitrogen species on cancer cell viability. The results showed that H2O2 produced in N2 environment had a greater effect on cancer cells compared to O2 environment, possibly due to the cellular proliferation enhancing effect of NH3.

A surface dielectric barrier discharge non-thermal plasma to induce cell death in colorectal cancer cells

Wasin Nupangtha et al.

Summary: In this study, a novel coaxial surface dielectric barrier discharge (SDBD) non-thermal atmospheric pressure plasma device driven by a 35.7-kHz DC pulse was developed and tested for its killing effects on a specific cancer cell type. Electrical characteristics, emissions, and effects on liquids and cells were investigated. Preliminary results showed that the device could induce time-dependent mortality of cancer cells at the cell level, indicating its potential as a cancer treatment alternative.
