Identification of microRNAs from Medicinal Plant Murraya koenigii by High-Throughput Sequencing and Their Functional Implications in Secondary Metabolite Biosynthesis

Claudia Gutierrez-Garcia et al.

Summary: This study utilized high-throughput sequencing technology to analyze the miRNA profile of Murraya koenigii and identified miRNAs associated with secondary metabolite biosynthesis. The results showed that these miRNAs targeted key enzymes in the terpenoid backbone and flavonoid biosynthesis pathways. The sequencing results were validated by qPCR. This is the first report of the miRNA profile of Murraya koenigii, providing valuable information for studying the involvement of miRNAs in secondary metabolism.

Rfam 14: expanded coverage of metagenomic, viral and microRNA families

Ioanna Kalvari et al.

Summary: Rfam is a database of RNA families with 3444 families, each represented by a multiple sequence alignment of known RNA sequences and a covariance model for searching additional members. Recent developments focused on improving data quality and coverage, adding new families like microRNAs, viral and bacterial RNAs through expert collaborations. The database saw significant growth with 759 new families added in Rfam 14, along with new features such as the Rfam Cloud family curation system.

Identification and characterization of SlbHLH, SlDof and SlWRKY transcription factors interacting with SlDPD gene involved in costunolide biosynthesis in Saussurea lappa

Vasundhara Thakur et al.

Summary: The study identified potential transcription factor binding sites in the promoter region of the DPD gene in Saussurea lappa, providing insights into the transcriptional regulation pattern of the costunolide biosynthetic pathway. Yeast one-hybrid assays revealed three TFs from Dof, bHLH, and WRKY families that interacted positively with the DPD gene. Tissue-specific relative gene expression studies supported the linked co-expression of the gene and its interacting TFs.

Therapeutic Impact of Costus (Saussurea lappa) Against Ehrlich Solid Tumor-Induced Cardiac Toxicity and DNA Damage in Female Mice

Rehab M. Elgharabawy et al.

Summary: The study found that costus root had protective effects against EST-induced cardiac toxicity, improving cardiac toxicity, lipid profiles, electrolytes, and apoptosis, and providing protection against EST. This suggests the potential benefits of costus as an adjuvant in the prevention and treatment of cardiac toxicity.
