The bHLH transcription factor AcB2 regulates anthocyanin biosynthesis in onion (Allium cepa L.)

Xiaojie Li et al.

Summary: The red color of onion bulbs is caused by anthocyanins, which are regulated by a protein called AcB2. AcB2 interacts with another protein called AcMYB1 to enhance the regulation of anthocyanin biosynthesis. This discovery provides a theoretical basis for breeding onions with higher anthocyanin contents.

Comparative transcriptome analysis of purple-fleshed sweet potato and its yellow-fleshed mutant provides insight into the transcription factors involved in anthocyanin biosynthesis in tuberous root

Wen Dong et al.

Summary: This study investigated the regulatory mechanism of anthocyanin biosynthesis in the tuberous roots of sweet potato by analyzing the transcriptome of a purple-fleshed cultivar and its yellow-fleshed mutant. The researchers identified several transcription factors involved in anthocyanin biosynthesis and confirmed their functions through various assays. These findings provide new insights into the regulation of anthocyanin biosynthesis in sweet potato.

A single amino acid mutant in the EAR motif of IbMYB44.2 reduced the inhibition of anthocyanin accumulation in the purple-fleshed sweetpotato

Li-Xia Li et al.

Summary: Purple-fleshed sweetpotato is rich in anthocyanins, with R2R3-type MYB transcription factors containing EAR motifs known to inhibit anthocyanin biosynthesis. This study found that IbMYB44.1/3 have stronger inhibitory effects on anthocyanin biosynthesis compared to IbMYB44.2. Additionally, interactions between IbMYB44.1/3 and IbMYB340 were identified, suggesting a negative regulation of anthocyanin biosynthesis.

Characterization of BBX family genes and their expression profiles under various stresses in the sweet potato wild ancestor Ipomoea trifida

Wenqian Hou et al.

Summary: Through studying and analyzing the BBX genes in Ipomoea species, we have discovered their classification and evolutionary patterns. Based on transcriptome data, BBX genes with tissue-specific and dynamic stress response expression patterns were identified. Real-time PCR analysis showed highly divergent stress-response patterns of certain BBX genes in root and leaf.
