Genome sequence and evolution of Betula platyphylla

Su Chen et al.

Summary: The genome of Betula platyphylla was sequenced and assembled into 14 chromosomes, revealing clues on lignin synthesis pathways and cold tolerance genes. The study identified a cascade of MAP kinases and gene regulatory networks associated with cold stress response. The genomic and transcriptomic analyses provide valuable insights into the structure, features, and evolution of the B. platyphylla genome, facilitating the discovery of important genes and genetic improvement of this tree species.

Multiomics Analysis Reveals New Insights into the Apple Fruit Quality Decline under High Nitrogen Conditions

Fen Wang et al.

Summary: The excessive application of nitrogen fertilizer in Chinese apple production was found to decrease the content of soluble sugar and flavonoids in fruits, leading to poor fruit quality. High nitrogen levels also altered the nitrogen, carbon content, and C/N ratio of apple fruits. The study revealed that high nitrogen inhibited the accumulation of carbohydrates and flavonoids in fruits, and promoted the synthesis of amino acids using more carbon skeletons. This insight provides new understanding on the effects of high nitrogen on fruit quality.

Genome-wide identification and analysis of WRKY gene family in maize provide insights into regulatory network in response to abiotic stresses

Wenjing Hu et al.

Summary: This study identified 140 ZmWRKY proteins encoded by 125 ZmWRKY genes in maize, which were divided into three main groups and further classified into five subgroups. The genes displayed specific exon-intron structures and conserved protein motifs. RNA-seq analysis revealed differential expression patterns of ZmWRKY genes at different developmental stages and under abiotic stress treatments.
