THESEUS1 modulates cell wall stiffness and abscisic acid production in Arabidopsis thaliana

Laura Bacete et al.

Summary: Plant cells have a mechanism to maintain the integrity of their cell walls, which involves adaptive responses to wall damage. The cell wall integrity sensor THESEUS1 plays a key role in regulating mechanical properties, abscisic acid production, and jasmonic acid production in response to wall damage. This mechanism coordinates changes in cell wall stiffness and turgor pressure.

Cytokinin promotes growth cessation in the Arabidopsis root

Shanda Liu et al.

Summary: The study investigates how regulated cellular growth shapes different tissues and organs in the Arabidopsis root. It is found that cytokinin plays a role in zonation by promoting growth cessation and accelerating the transition from elongation to differentiation. Cell-wall stiffness and an auxin influx carrier, AUX1, are also involved in cytokinin-mediated growth cessation.

Computational modeling and quantitative physiology reveal central parameters for brassinosteroid-regulated early cell physiological processes linked to elongation growth of the Arabidopsis root

Ruth Grosseholz et al.

Summary: This study combines computational modeling with quantitative cell physiology to investigate the key function of cellular elongation during the initiation of cellular responses in the epidermis of Arabidopsis roots. The research reveals that the competence of root epidermal cells for the BR response depends on the amount and activity of H+-ATPases in the plasma membrane. Additionally, the study identifies a potassium channel that is essential for compensating the shift of positive charges caused by apoplastic acidification.

How Mechanical Forces Shape Plant Organs

Duy-Chi Trinh et al.

Summary: Plants produce organs with various shapes and sizes, influenced by mechanical signals such as turgor pressure and cell wall contiguity. Mechanical feedback helps in maintaining elemental shapes of plant organs and generating complex shapes. Mechanical conflicts at boundaries of domains with different growth rates contribute to the emergence of features such as folds and growth arrest in plant organs. Integration of mechanical signals with molecular networks offers potential prospects for understanding organ shape robustness and the interplay between biochemical and mechanical signals in defining cell and organ identities.

Cell surface and intracellular auxin signalling for H+ fluxes in root growth

Lanxin Li et al.

Summary: Plant growth is regulated by environmental factors, such as how plants respond to gravity by bending shoots up and roots down. Research has shown that the plant hormone auxin affects root growth by regulating cell expansion and contraction in the roots.

Molecular insights into the complex mechanics of plant epidermal cell walls

Yao Zhang et al.

Summary: Plants have evolved complex nanofibril-based cell walls to meet diverse biological and physical constraints, with cellulose and matrix polysaccharides playing important mechanical roles. By simulating the assembly and tensile mechanics of cell walls, researchers found that fibril-fibril sliding in cellulose networks leads to plasticity, revealing design principles of biomaterials.
