The action of RED light: Specific elevation of pelargonidin-based anthocyanin through ABA-related pathway in strawberry

Lei Wang et al.

Summary: In this study, it was found that red-light irradiation can promote the red coloration and increase the pelargonidin-based anthocyanins in postharvest strawberries. It was also discovered that red light can regulate the accumulation of pelargonidin-based anthocyanins through the ABA-related pathway.

Abscisic acid-responsive transcription factors PavDof2/6/15 mediate fruit softening in sweet cherry

Zefeng Zhai et al.

Summary: This study identified a set of transcription factors that are essential for abscisic acid (ABA)-promoted fruit softening in sweet cherry. The study revealed that ABA regulates the activity of cell wall-modifying enzymes by directly controlling the expression of transcription factors. Furthermore, it was found that ABA can repress the expression of an auxin response factor, which in turn activates the expression of the transcription factors. This study provides insights into the physiological framework of fruit softening and establishes a direct functional link between ABA, transcription factors, and cell-wall-modifying genes in mediating fruit softening.

Genome-Wide Identification of the B-BOX Genes that Respond to Multiple Ripening Related Signals in Sweet Cherry Fruit

Yanyan Wang et al.

Summary: In this study, 15 PavBBX genes were identified in sweet cherry, and their roles in fruit development and response to light, hormones were analyzed. The PavBBX genes were divided into five subgroups, and their promoter regions contained elements related to plant development, hormones, and stress. Some PavBBX genes were strongly induced by ABA, GA, and BR treatment.

Red and blue light treatments of ripening bilberry fruits reveal differences in signalling through abscisic acid-regulated anthocyanin biosynthesis

Amos Samkumar et al.

Summary: This study found that both red and blue light can enhance the biosynthesis of anthocyanins in bilberry fruit, with red light showing a more significant effect in increasing anthocyanin concentration. Transcriptomic analysis revealed up-regulation of major anthocyanin structural genes, key regulatory MYB transcription factors, and abscisic acid biosynthetic genes under both light treatments.

A poplar B-box protein PtrBBX23 modulates the accumulation of anthocyanins and proanthocyanidins in response to high light

Chaofeng Li et al.

Summary: Through the study of Populus trichocarpa BBX transcription factors, 16 candidate genes were identified, of which 5 were mainly expressed in young leaves and roots, with BBX23 showing a significant response to high light. Overexpression of BBX23 activated the expression of structural genes and MYB transcription factors in the flavonoid pathway, leading to increased accumulation of proanthocyanidins and anthocyanins.
