Dealing with clustered samples for assessing map accuracy by cross-validation

Summary: This study examined different cross-validation methods for assessing the accuracy of environmental variable mapping. It found that inverse sampling-intensity weighting and the heteroscedastic model-based method had smaller bias for most sampling designs, while conventional and spatial cross-validation were overly optimistic for the most strongly clustered design.
