Smart reprograming of plants against salinity stress using modern biotechnological tools

Ali Raza et al.

Summary: Climate change leads to various environmental stresses, including soil salinity, which negatively affects agricultural productivity. Plants respond to salinity stress by regulating ion homeostasis, inducing antioxidant defense systems, and producing phytohormones and osmoprotectants. Enhancing salt tolerance in plants is crucial for sustaining global agricultural productivity.

Transcriptomic Analysis to Unravel Potential Pathways and Genes Involved in Pecan (Carya illinoinensis) Resistance to Pestalotiopsis microspora

Yu Chen et al.

Summary: This study used RNA-Seq to analyze the transcriptional response of pecan to fruit black spot (FBS) infection and identified differentially expressed genes. Pathway annotation revealed the importance of MAPK signaling pathway, plant-pathogen interaction, and plant hormone signal transduction in pecan resistance to FBS. Additionally, the study revealed potential interaction networks between pathogenesis-related genes, WRKY transcription factors, and their correlation with gene expression data.

Transcriptome and Metabolome Analyses Reveal Complex Molecular Mechanisms Involved in the Salt Tolerance of Rice Induced by Exogenous Allantoin

Juan Wang et al.

Summary: In this study, the effects of exogenous allantoin on salt-stressed rice seedlings were comprehensively analyzed. The results showed that allantoin positively affects salt tolerance by increasing endogenous allantoin levels, enhancing antioxidant activities, and maintaining sodium and potassium homeostasis. Transcriptome analysis revealed upregulated genes involved in ion transport and redox regulation, as well as downregulated genes related to transcription and post-transcriptional regulation, carbohydrate metabolism, chromosome remodeling, and cell wall organization. Metabolite analysis detected the accumulation of metabolites with antioxidant activities and intermediate products of the allantoin biosynthetic pathway, suggesting that allantoin enhances salt tolerance by inducing ROS scavenging cascades.

Allantoin: Emerging Role in Plant Abiotic Stress Tolerance

Harmeet Kaur et al.

Summary: Allantoin is a nitrogen-containing compound in plants that plays a crucial role in stress tolerance by activating stress-related genes. Its biosynthesis is linked to increased tolerance to abiotic stresses like drought and salt, and external application can induce crosstalk between ABA and JA pathways, enhancing stress tolerance in plants. Additionally, allantoin has been implicated in kin recognition in plants, facilitating inter-plant interactions.

Acetic-acid-induced jasmonate signaling in root enhances drought avoidance in rice

Daisuke Ogawa et al.

Summary: The study found that rice rapidly induces jasmonate signaling upon application of acetic acid, leading to physiological changes similar to those seen under drought conditions. The major metabolite of exogenously applied acetic acid in xylem sap was determined to be glutamine, and the expression of drought-responsive genes in shoots was attenuated by acetic acid treatment. These data suggest that acetic acid activates root-to-shoot jasmonate signals that partially overlap with those induced by drought, providing an acclimated state for shoots before subsequent drought conditions.
